Local CPA Becomes a Regular on CNN

Doug Stives, CPA, PFS; a partner at The Curchin Group with offices on Half Mile Road in Red Bank continues to spread the firm's name around the country through regular media exposure and speaking engagements.

He has become a regular guest on CNN Financial News with monthly appearances on Your Money hosted by All Velshi. Stives has been featured as "the tax expert who is here to take your calls and respond to your emails on questions you may have about taxes."

Last April 15, CNN aired from the Post Office on 8th Avenue in New York City that stays open until midnight. Every year thousands of last minute filers line up to get their tax returns postmarked before the midnight filing deadline. The program started at 5pm and included several guests including representatives from the Internal Revenue Service and the State of New York Department of Tax. Stives fielded many questions from taxpayers who were concerned mostly about what they should do if they were unable to file before the deadline. Stives and the host stood on the main post office floor with lots of harried taxpayers in the background.

Other major media exposure for Stives in 2003 included two appearances on Peter Jenning - World News Tonight. In January, Stives was asked to predict how the 2003 Tax Act would affect typical taxpaying families. A follow-up segment was taped in his office in June and broadcast in a segment showing who benefited the most and the least from the New Tax Law. Stives has also done presentations on the CBS Morning Show and the Annual PBS Tax Season Presentation and Tom Brokaw's Evening News on NBC.

Stives has presented several hundred seminars in 38 states, Canada and the Bahamas to professional groups over the last 25 years. During 2003, four different course vendors featured Stives's tax and financial planning programs. He is scheduled to present sessions across the country from New York to Hawaii in 2004.

Stives's media exposure and teaching enhance the Curchin Group's tax practice by providing access to a network of experts around the country. Stives utilizes his 35 years of work experience to generate material for his appearances.

Stives continues to be a regular guest on CNBC based in Englewood Cliffs. In 2003, Stives appeared in four CNBC segments hosted by Ted David including a full hour segment on New Years Day.

Some of the CNBC and CNN segments are re-broadcast on NBC and CNN affiliated stations. Stives enjoys hearing from clients and friends who have seen him on segments around the country and occasionally in foreign countries.
